Product Rave: Smashbox 'Baked Starburst'

As I hoped you would have seen in this Nordstrom haul, I recently got this Smashbox Lights on: Lips box set. I really wanted to try the highlighter since I saw it in a boutique shop in Jamaica but, if my memory serves me correctly, the price was a lil hot. Check out this keek for my initial impression and what I paired it with.

Sets are a perfect way to try a few items from a brand and usually I keep a few products from them for future giveaways on this blog.

isn't she precious?

What I love about this product is the sheen it gives without looking "glittery". Highlighters with big shimmer/glitter particles can accentuate pores...and nobody wants that. I also appreciate the 'soft light' aspect since it isn't heavily metallic or frosty. This just gives the skin a very subtle healthy glow. Gorgeous!

Compared to the Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc and the M.A.C Mineralized Skinfinish, 'Baked Starburst' does give a "softer" finish. It isn't so much the texture of the product, although it is also very smooth to the touch, as it is the effect. I've had unpleasant fortune of using Mineralized Skinfinishes in the past that highlighted pores I didn't even know I had. This type of product is also more likely to blend with your blush rather than giving the appearance of just sitting on top of it. I applied it to my cheekbones with the Real Technique Contour brush but a natural haired blush brush could be used as well.

Only test left is to see how it looks with flash photography. We be on Instagram straight flexxin.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

Heidi Bowen of Moden Makeup

Let's get the obvious one out of the way shall we 😉 I've said before how much I've learned watching Heidi conduct her Workshops. Since then she has increased her skillset, restructured her modules and truly focused on knowledge sharing. Every participant departs feeling enlightened; emboldened to try something they once thought was daunting. No one leaves empty handed. This kindda thing speaks to me because I've attended many M.A.C classes and saw the value only in the products I was reimbursed. Not to say, the outing isn't a good time - especially if you go with friends - but some settings leave you more intimidated than excited. #TeamModen affiliations aside, I can see how Heidi has grown as a Beauty Educator. And fuh my one part I know any session booked…
