Top Ten Lip Products for 2013

Merry Christmas!

This post should really be titled Top Ten Lipsticks but as I rarely wear them I'll just expand the category. So, in no particular order...

Revlon Lip Butters

I shouldda done a whole overview on this line for the amount of these that I bought. Anyho, you can see me singing their praises in this video.

p.s. I'm really loving 'Pink Truffle' now. L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm Still on the sheer lip colour craze I gravitated to the L'Oreal version of the lip butters...and loved it.

Jolie Cosmetics - Matte Raspberry

#TeamModen is always raving about Jolie Cosmetics, that's why we've purchased so many of their products for ourselves and to share with you. It's absolutely no secret about my affection for Matte Raspberry.

If you are intimidated by bright lipsticks or hate the hassle of maintaining a red or dark lip, try filling in your entire lips with a lip liner…

Top Ten Brushes for 2013

Hands down, brushes have been the most expensive things I have purchased this year. Starting with Hakuhodo and ending with Marc Jacobs (neither of which I have used yet so they're not on this list). As Wayne Goss said, you can still achieve great looks with inexpensive makeup if you have the right tools.

You gotta know by now that my focus is usually on achieving flawless skin so this will feature primarily face brushes. Here are a few of my splurges and steals.

e.l.f Powder Brush

I literally just told you that this brush was one of my standouts for the year. I'm impressed that e.l.f can make such a good brush at that price.

Available from iMart and Get Set posted on our Facebook page December 28, 2012
Louise Young Super Blusher Brush LY06

In my hunt for the perfect blush brush I purchased this one and I was not disappointed. This brush not only blends out highly pigmented blushes to perfection but it also layers softer/lesser pigment ones to give your desired effect. The tiered b…

A Few Of My Favourite Things

T'is the Season!

We hope you're enjoying this special time of year. If anyone has any good black cake at their house just let me know when to swing by.

Our Christmas give-away will be hosted on our Facebook page, you can see the rules Heidi posted on her Instagram account yesterday. We wanted you to have a chance to try some of the products we've been raving about all year. Here are my picks:

NYX Black Label lipstick 'Sand', e.l.f Powder Brush, Milani Baked Blush 'Red Vino'. M.A.C Prep+Prime Highlighter 'Peach Lustre', NYX retractable eye liner 'Cashmere' (waterproof) and Orly Nail Lacquer Thinner

You've seen how much nail polish I couldn't resist this year; it's always handy to have a thinner and this nozzle opening makes it very easy to dispense the product.

Sand is still my favourite nude lipstick.

For sure you remember me raving about this brush in our YouTube videos. It blends foundation so nicely and the price is unbeatable.

Top Blushes for 2013 (Lucinda's picks)

As the year draws to a close prepare for the onslaught of "Top..." whatever whatever whatever videos on YouTube. I'm just getting the ball rolling.

If you follow me on keekInstagram or keep up with our Facebook page you know that blush and concealer are constantly fighting for top spot in my heart. The following are the top cheek colours I've enjoyed for the year; in no particular order.

Milani Minerals in 'Sunset Beach'

Tried and true. You've heard me rave about how gorgeous burnt orange looks on our complexion, this gives that look.

Make-up Designory 'Pumpkin'
Same burnt orange theme, this one is just a smidge brighter.

Sleek Blush by 3 'Sugar'
Errrrrrrrrmahgad! If you love to layer blushes you need this in your life. 'Flame' is gorgeous too.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush 'Tipsy'
I sang its praises in this video, go check it out.

Milani Baked Powder Blush 'Fantastico Mauve'
It really is hard choosing between this…

Why I Have Fallen Out Of Lust With M.A.C

Breathe Mafia. Breathe.
Don't put the hit out on me just yet. As you can see from this post I still love M.A.C. So just hear me out.

The boys would tell you, I'm usually either totally infatuated or completely disinterested...yet with M.A.C I'm somewhere in between. *cue music* Every time I thought that was that, they call me right back/Man they call me right back/Oh no! 10 points if you know that song.

To be fair, I have to say I'm out of lust with the brand. You know, that gotta have it feeling. I used to be that customer spending $400+ at every Christmas launch but for the last two holiday collections I haven't purchased a thing. That doesn't mean I don't still spend my money there. As you can tell from our give-aways this year, I clearly do; but I certainly shop a lot more wisely than I did three to four years ago. Here's why:

Letting Go

From my last post in this series you get the idea of what's going on here. The more products I purchase to review, the more I can't be bothered with things that don't work/aren't what I expected. Here are the most recent offenders:

Casualty: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Darkspot Treatment
Reason: 'Medium/Deep' ain't fuh me

Available from Collins Anti bacterial sponge tip applicator
What's worst, the undertone of the product makes it look extremely ashy on dark skin. Just to give you a colour comparison:
posted on our Facebook page June 19, 2013
Yeah, ridiculous.
Casualty: NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer 'Orange' Reason: Doesn't "sink in" to the skin well
Available from Exotica Makeup and Extensions
The colour is great for correcting dark under eye circles but I just can't get this texture to mesh with my skin. Maybe it's my eye creams, maybe the wrong technique, maybe YSL has me spoilt but I just can't ge…
