Makeup 101 - Learn the Basics

Gooooood Morning Ladies and Gents!!

Thank you for putting us at 18,000+ views! It gives us some nice tingly feelings we are so grateful to you for following us and supporting. Last year was about giving back, and I have to give much love and thanks to Lucinda for the tireless work she puts in and for keeping the Moden Mavens in tune.

Don't forget to follow us on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and of course our Facebook Page. We keep you informed!

If you DO follow Moden on Instagram: @ModenMakeup you would have seen I uploaded photos yesterday (Sunday) of me in a class. Raise your hand if you know Akeem?? One of THE most talented artists I have seen locally to date. He is also a very kind, sweet person who loves what he does and it shows!

The tutor and Shanece, my friend and a Moden Maven, showing her how to blend her shadow perfectly.

My turn!! He is so gentle!!

I smudged my liner, but the attempt was real!

Oh yea! Giveaways!! I got a Feline Pencil, Concealer and a gel liner!!
So I first met Akeem backstage at BB Fashion Week 2012. I'd heard of his work but until then had only interacted with him briefly. Cut to November of 2013 and I was in love. He has a genuine spirit, loves to laugh and we share a love of alllll things makeup.

I decided to take his class. You take nothing but a mirror. And you get STELLAR training with allllll the equipment and makeup you could think of. If you ever wanted someone over your shoulder pointing you in the right direction for your specific eye shape, face shape, wanted to learn how to perfect the eyebrow game that everybody and their mama is on; then this is the class for you.

It's only our second week, and people have been commenting on my brows a helluva lot more than they were before. The beauty of this class is that he benefits from the professional training he has received, and he also does a lot of research (told you we were alike).

He is a perfectionist, and honey, we redid our eyebrows THREE (3) times on the first session.

The Why: I am taking his course because I believe my artistry MUST improve. I love makeup, I love learning, I love changing the game, but I also know the value of learning from others. To up my game, I need training from many different avenues. Proud to say his class is where I start.

So many of you may balk, but I guarantee you after the five weeks? Sooooo worth it. Believe me.

Here are the details in full:

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Purified Lactic Acid: One of the most hydrating Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Lactic Acid exfoliates the surface layers of t…

It's A Dupe!

Long time no dupe.

Corny? I know. I try.

Faithful readers would have seen me rave about the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, a.k.a Face Cement, numerous times. Well, we have a dupe: The Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer. I knew it instantly. So instantly that I've used the MUFE twice and decided that it's ridiculous to keep both since they are the same.

You can read all about the Becca primer in the link above so I'm just going to talk about the MUFE version here.

Can you tell which is which? No? Well, neither can I.
