Haul - MAC and a L'oreal Repurchase

Hi Mavenz,

If you follow @modenmakeup on Instagram, and you viewed your timeline today, you should have seen this:

Since Crop Over is coming up, Anderson suggested I buy some things locally to put into my kit, he imports all of my needs. Well this haul is just the beginning!!! Permission granted and I out to all! I need to get some wipes, fix plus, brow pencils, con.... getting ahead of myself. See above for what I purchased today!
I LOVE Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation for setting my Ben Nye Matte Foundations. But I honestly have no idea where all my powders have gone. I can only find one NW45 and I had 4. I know I bought four of each shade, now. I'm down to one of each, HORRORS. Terrible, I know. I'll keep hunting though.
So I bought two to tide me over til Saturday:

My studio finish concealer was at scrape the bottom status, AND I wanted to try a lighter shade for my brows and highlight, so Ackeem suggested NC 40, which I went for.

I am almost out of my Anastasia Brow…

Making Up - Face (Step by Step Blogtorial)

Hiii Mavenz!!!

Now I love doing my makeup when I am not in a rush. So today with the rain and lovely, cool, gusts of wind, I decided to take advantage and try out some new products.
This was the result.

I am a huge fan of the red lip. And my brows? Taming them is a Herculean task, but necessary. Here is what I did.
1. Cleansed and moisturised my face. 2. Applied my Clearzit to ward off those pesky pimples. 3. Filled and sculpted my brows. 4. Applied NYX Angel Veil, I got a sample from TheMakeupGeeksCo (it is dabomb.com) for realllies!!! See below

It dries like MOM (milk of magnesia), and keeps the face matte for hours! Definitely worth a try for us oily ladies!!!!
5. Apply your eyeshadow, any colours you desire, just remember to blend please!  6. Add your gel, liquid or pencil liner and wing it out ever so slightly, ahem.
Like so,

7. I also popped on a pair of lashes I purchased from Lady Moss Beauty Koko- in Ariel with my Star Glue. (Uh may zeeng)

8. Since this was in aid of honin…

The Makeup Show NYC Experience - Part 2

Mavenz,

If you follow me on Instagram you know I got married. It was hectic, and crazy and Lucinda took care of our baby. I'm back now!!

Back to the action at the makeup show. Now I had to pay a visit to the Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancers. Ermagerd. NOTHING highlights and conceals like these beauties. The price? Astronomical, so I tested and moved on. High on my Christmas wishlist?? Them!

Now, hear this. I got samples. The ladies at Mario Badescu were SOOO nice and helpful. And I shared some with Lucinda. The hand cream??? Talk about emollient and refreshing. I do NOT have to moisturize more than once with that bad boy. More on this later ;) Suffice to say, it's a MUST HAVE in your handbag. The Orange Cleanser?? To die for. I neeeeeeed a full size in my life. My skin felt so soft and supple, even my mum admitted it's a must have in her beauty regimen. SWEEET!!
My love for the Ben Nye Banana Powder is real!! It really highlights the face beautifully. And there was th…

Should Your Cleanser Foam?

Straight up, skin care expert Caroline Hirons says no. "As a rule - stay clear of 'foaming' on the bottle (there is the odd exception, but they are few and far between) - to get foam you need to use a surfactant - and a surfactant turns your skin alkaline. Alkaline skin is like a petri dish for bacteria. The irony being that so many cleansers pushed on to acne/combination skins are foaming. Naughty, nasty companies should know better". And again, "In general, foaming is what you want Fairy Liquid to do. Not your cleanser. And to the brands: I am unapologetic".

She's the boss so I defer to her.

Before I knew all o dat I raved about the Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Foam Wash.

posted on our Facebook page January 28, 2013 "REVIEW: Often I felt like regular Cetaphil doesn't really cleanse my skin; and while it's famous for being gentle it still contains parabens. This formula however does cleanse and the zinc ingredients do assist with oil co…

Heidi fag right out
Before I get caught up in the Rapture can we just take a moment to appreciate iHop...

Sweet baby Jesus.
I think the first store I went into that sold cosmetics was a Walgreens. My eyes were popping out from the time we entered. So many brands that aren't available in Barbados, wuh laus. Heidi kept telling me to pace myself because we'd see the items even cheaper at other stores. I only went for a face cleanser but I had to buy some sortta makeup right? Right?
The Motherload
The second set of makeup shopping was serious. We hit the Sephora on 34th Street and spend damn near four hours touching, testing, talking, swatching, oohhing, ahhhing...basically having the time of our lives. I had a list; I tell you it was serious! M…
