5 Overhyped (and overpriced?) Products #MarchMadness

Usual disclaimer for these sort of posts: these opinions - like in all posts - are my own. If these products work for you, congrats. Dis is just my two cents.

Evolution of Smooth Sphere Lip Balm

I mentioned this as a possible "meh" product for 2013 but I can tell you for certain now that these ain't all that YouTube hype dem up to be. I say that having a) bought several and, b) tried three different kinds. Locally you can find these for between $12 to $18. It ain't worth it bruh. The best use I have found for these was assisting to remove the remnants of difficult matte liquid lipsticks. Buy a Chapstick, buy A+D Original Ointment; not dese.

M.A.C Dazzleglass

Don't get me wrong these are gorgeous. I have the cult classics 'Funtabulous' and 'Moth to Flame'. I got 'Boys Go Crazy' in a limited edition set and that's straight multi-dimensional glitter porn. I've also tried the very popular 'Rags to Riches'. This is one M.A.C item that is grossly overpriced. For 0.06 US oz. we pay $20USD - don't have the local price to hand now. Maybelline glosses contain .17 fl. oz. Revlon glosses contain 0.13 fl. oz. Milani glosses contain 0.21 oz. You can find sparkly colours from any of those brands for a fraction of the M.A.C price.

I got these from Bio Beauty. The full size polish is $25 and the full size top coat is $26. They're also minis available in their basket by the cashier. For full details click the link and read the post but the cliffsnotes version is they ain't worth it.

As seen in Bio Beauty, Coconut Walk, Hastings

This is clearly a case of the company putting more money into marketing the product than the actual product. You can find way better things to do with your $69USD. Trust.

Moroccanoil Hair Products

Yes yes I said it. I have tried their Moisture Repair Shampoo and Conditioner, Intense Hydrating Mask, Restorative Hair Mask, Intense Curl Cream and the infamous Original Oil Treatment. These things cost quite a pretty penny and I've found they perform better - still not mind blowing - on my extensions and not the hair actually growing outta my head. The masks are the best of the lot and you have to add coconut oil to see any sortta real results on yuh real hair. Stupse.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Unlike my Influencers post the persons mentioned below are all local and I know them. If that makes me biased then you should take everything I'm about to say with a grain of salt.

Heidi Bowen of Moden Makeup

Let's get the obvious one out of the way shall we 😉 I've said before how much I've learned watching Heidi conduct her Workshops. Since then she has increased her skillset, restructured her modules and truly focused on knowledge sharing. Every participant departs feeling enlightened; emboldened to try something they once thought was daunting. No one leaves empty handed. This kindda thing speaks to me because I've attended many M.A.C classes and saw the value only in the products I was reimbursed. Not to say, the outing isn't a good time - especially if you go with friends - but some settings leave you more intimidated than excited. #TeamModen affiliations aside, I can see how Heidi has grown as a Beauty Educator. And fuh my one part I know any session booked…
