Liquid Lipsticks Part 1

Happy Easter!

I've promised this comparison since Adam was a lad; and since I've decided to do it I've accumulated so many of them that there's no way I could fit it all into one post. So this entry will compare: Dose of Colors 'Berry Me', NYX 'Copenhagen', Pretty Zombie Cosmetics 'Dahlia' and L.A. Splash Cosmetics 'Untamed'.

Of the four products 'Berry Me' has the best packaging. It's also the most expensive at $55BDS from House Of Glam. There are 4.5 grams in each tube.

NYX says: "Neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip color that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and, unlike some matte lipstick formulas, also moisturizing.
What it is: Highly pigmented, matte lip cream
What it does: Creates various matte lip looks
Why we love it: Delightfully creamy and lightweight, our award winning line just expanded with two captivating new shades.

Artist Tips/Suggested Use: Apply directly to lips, or over lipstick. Apply with lip liner to define outline of lips.

". Available in 22 shades. There are eight grams of product in each tube.

Heidi has already done an overview of these so you know it's #TeamModen recommended. The Soft Matte Lip creams are the most inexpensive of the lot, usually retailing for $20 - $25BDS across the island and the most comfortable to wear.

Pretty Zombies Cosmetics says: "VEGAN & CRUELTY-FREE Liquid to Matte.

I bought this from Beyond Beauty Barbados for $35BDS.

L.A. Splash Cosmetics says: "Lip Couture's rich waterproof shades will leave a velvety, matte finish that never transfers. Experiment with our boldest high pigmented shades - from neutral to solid black. With its innovative formula that glides on as liquid and dries matte, you are sure to turn heads! Use the Lip Couture Remover to effortlessly remove the lipstick and leave your lips super moisturized and cushiony soft. To remove use any oil based makeup removing product. For best results gently massage on cleanser and remove with a cotton ball.

These also retail for $35BDS from either Beyond Beauty Barbados or Exotica Makeup and Extensions. There are 3.8 grams in each tube.

Now the part you really wanna know...

Major differences

'Berry Me' and 'Copenhagen' formulas have the best scent.

All these liquid lipsticks feel slightly tacky when you press your lips together.

The Lip Couture suggested expiration date is three months after opening. The Soft Matte Lip Cream suggests 18 months while Pretty Zombie Cosmetics and Dose of Colors show no such date on their packaging.

If you want a no smudge, no transfer, on your lips till the second coming lip colour go with the Lip Coutures. To ensure that your lips don't run off your face screaming abuse, please follow the directions and remove these products with an oil based something (I prefer just plain coconut oil). For that longevity you're gonna have to trade comfort. So exfoliating and moisturizing your lips prior to use is a must. Just remember to remove all excess moisture before application.

Second best in the longwear race is Liquid-Matte lipsticks from Dose of Colors. 'Berry Me' wore just a smidgen less on a regular day but broke down after I ate some fried snapper.

After de snapper; including wiping my mout

These build easily upon themselves so reapplication is a breeze. I would not recommend building a Lip Couture after it has set. You'd have to totally remove the product and start from scratch.

Funny enough I found the liquid lipsticks from Pretty Zombie Cosmetics and the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams to be very similar. While I have found inconsistencies in the formula with the lighter shades of the Soft Matte Lip Creams, the dark colours are a joy to wear. I just like dark lippies. The light mousse-y texture make application easy. On the flip side, these textures do not dry down nowhere near as matte as the Lip Coutures nor do they last as long. I was happy to see the disclaimer: "(our liquid lipsticks are NOT smudge-proof or transfer-proof)" on the Pretty Zombie cosmetics website just now cause at least they're not lying to their customers. 'Dahlia' transfers all day errrrday; but you can layer it enough that your lip colour still doesn't break through.

L - R: L.A. Splash Cosmetics Lip Couture, Pretty Zombie Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick, NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream and Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick

All the liquid lipsticks come with a doe foot applicator with the exception of the Lip Couture. That one is longer and slanted. I think it's a good choice since you'd want to be very precise with the application of a product that dries quickly, especially if it's a darker shade.

Would I Repurchase?

A longwear matte lipstick has its time and place I suppose. Many makeup artists I know are loving the Lip Coutures and will be using them on their clients for Kadooment Day. Personally, I'm not a fan of the uber dry lip so the Soft Matte Lip Creams are my favourite; I just have to keep it with me for touch-ups. If you're looking for a happy medium and don't mind spending the money try Dose of Colors.

If I've left anything out please ask away in the comments.

Part 2 will feature: Sleek, Anastasia Beverly Hills, L.A. Splash Cosmetics and Ruby Kisses.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

It's A Dupe!

Long time no dupe.

Corny? I know. I try.

Faithful readers would have seen me rave about the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, a.k.a Face Cement, numerous times. Well, we have a dupe: The Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer. I knew it instantly. So instantly that I've used the MUFE twice and decided that it's ridiculous to keep both since they are the same.

You can read all about the Becca primer in the link above so I'm just going to talk about the MUFE version here.
