The blurb says it comes in over 45 shades though I haven't see that many at local retailers. I bought 'Pretty Piggy', 'Tidal Wave' and 'Street Flair'. Initially Collins had them solely in a two pack (one colour + top coat) for $28.95BDS but later they could be purchased individually for $17.25BDS. On the US sites they retail for $14.99 and $7.19 respectively.

Amidst the colour range are cream and shimmer finishes but I only chose the cream ones.

Some shimmer finish polishes in Collins

My first go round was not so hot...

'Street Flair'

Trust me to get the top coat with the wonky brush. I didn't think that I applied the polish well on that first attempt. I used to paint my nails sitting in bed with my hands on a book or something but for these you need a completely flat stable surface. While the wide brush made the nail bed easy to cover it also pulled the first coat of polish off thus creating bald patches. Maybe it was total user error this toss but the manicure had quite a few chips after two days.

Up next was 'Tidal Wave'

While I took greater care with this application I still managed to create bald spots. Thankfully this darker pigmented colour made it a little less obvious. This manicure lasted much longer. The photos below were taken after five days.

A total dupe for Essie's 'Butler Please'

By this time I'd already bought another top coat 'cause I just couldn't be bothered. As you can see from the photo above, the top coat almost seems to wear away after a bit and your manicure is susceptible to dings and scrapes. I've said in all Let's Talk Polish posts that I don't baby my hands so this wasn't to surprising to me.

I decided to give a pink polish a try...

'Pretty Piggy'

What a great Summer shade! I applied thicker coats hoping to get totally opaque coverage. Mistake. The polish took longer to dry; my pointer got that dent two hours after application! That part aside the manicure did fair much better. No chips and only tip wear after four days.

I really have been loving those dusty mauve tones so I decided to give 'Street Flair' another chance.

That was after seven days. Not too shabby!

Sally Hansen says -  regarding how this system works - "Technology How does Miracle Gel™ work? The Miracle Gel™ Color and Top Coat work together as a system to create a durable manicure with high gloss shine. Formula ingredients are key. The advanced Color and Top Coat formulas both contain an oligomer; the Top Coat also includes a photoinitiator. The photoinitiator activates a bond between the Color and Top Coat, thus curing the formula in natural light without the need of an LED/UV lamp. The formula continues to cure over time, increasing durability of the manicure".

Regular readers know that that's the same claim the CND Vinylux Weekly Polish had. And I feel the same way about this system: it's overpriced.

iMart being the biggest culprit.

Nail technicians will tell you: "if it ain't gotta cure under a UV light it ain't a real gel polish". So don't let the marketing get you. If you do choose to buy any of them just get a colour you love. Though the brand says you can't use other top coats with the polishes - "Can you use the Miracle Gel™ Top Coat over any nail polish, or on its own as a clear coat? No. The Miracle Gel™ Color and Top Coat formulas were developed to be used together as a system" - I don't buy that. Actually I am looking forward to trying the Miracle Gel top coat with other polishes since I do like the initial shine.

None of the polishes stained my nail beds thankfully. Not using a base coats always gives me a bit of anxiety but I follow the directions on these things to give you the most honest comprehensive review.

Have you tried this "Miracle Gel System"? How long did your manicures last? Let us know in the comments.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...
