Flashback Friday: Current Top Five Lipsticks (Updated)

Apparently in August 2013 I couldn't count. I mean, the post is clearly labelled Top Five yet they're only three products mentioned :/ I promised to get my math right this time around.

Favourite Nude: M.A.C 'Pander Me' from The Matte Lip Collection

I realised this year that I have so many nude lip products that it's actually kindda ridiculous. So much so that I had to separate them by undertone to do swatch posts for y'all. Trust me, that series isn't even finished. M.A.C describes this as a matte formula but I agree with Christine from Temptalia that it has "too much of a sheen for it to really be matte". I find myself reaching for this every time I'm going out.

If you prefer a more mauve toned nude, Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy 'Irresistible' is absolutely gorgeous and readily available.

Favourite pink: Ardency Inn Modster Long Play Supercharged Lip Color 'Twist'

My wife introduced me to this brand two years ago. A few months later I saw quite a few YouTube beauty vloggers raving about their eyeshadows when the Sephora started carrying the line. While I don't wear pink lips often - and when I do I prefer the softer shades - I can not deny the amazing pigmentation and longevity of this product (read: it stains something serious).

Favourite purple: Nars Audacious Lipstick 'Liv'

Vampy shades have to be my all time/hands down/bar none favourite type of lip colour. I do not know how they do it but they automatically make me feel some type o' way.  'Liv' is described as a "deep aubergine" and is the darkest shade in the 40 colours that Nars offers in this range. While preparing for this post I discovered that 'Liv' is exactly the same colour as M.A.C Lip Pencil 'Nightmoth' which M.A.C lost their damn minds and discontinued *growl*

Honourable vampy shade mention: Bite Matte Creme Lip Crayon 'Aubergine'.

Gorgeous.

Favourite red: M.A.C 'Deeply Adored' from the Marilyn Monroe Collection. Still!

I have tried a few reds since then but this has my heart.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

It's A Dupe!

posted on our Facebook page April 12, 2013 "DUPE ALERT: M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark vs Maybelline Fit Me! in 355 Coconut. Both look the same applied to the face and are the same texture when swatched. The Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is bigger by 1 gram but the Fit Me! is significantly cheap... *ahem* more "inexpensive". There is one shade darker in the M.A.C version but 355 is the darkest shade in the Maybelline. (I'm NC50). If you go through a lot of face powder it's worth a shot - LR"
Talk about a throwback!
I watched a dupe video on YouTube recently where this comparison was mentioned and it reminded me that I had the same thought a while ago. The finish on the skin is identical. Since this original post M.A.C has changed the packaging on their Mineralize line and Maybelline has rebranded/re categorised the Fit Me! range into: Dewy/Set + Smooth and Matte + Poreless.
M.A.C says: "A slow-baked powder with 77-Mineral Complex that provid…
