Let's Talk Polish

Another brand overview...

This toss we're looking at the L'Oreal Extraodinaire Gel-Lacque system. Yup, another do-it-at-home "gel nails" thingie. Unlike the Sally Hansen line that I reviewed recently, in the L'Oreal system you purchase the 'Step 1 Primer + Step 3 Glaze' as a set and the coloured nail polish separately. The "Gel-color" polishes were on Collins' shelves for quite some time now; but not the base and top coat. I remember Mandy and I lamenting about that for months before we actually saw them in Barbados. So much so that I ended up getting mine in New York last year.

When they did land it was sticker shock time.

As usual, they're the most expensive in iMart. The L'Oreal site says they're $7.99USD.

I got five of the 21 shades available in the range. From the looks of it the entire range consists of cream finish polishes. Each bottle contains 0.39 fl. oz. of product (not the standard 0.5).

Seems like polish on my pointer fingers go first; and after just one chip it's a struggle not to remove everything but I did it. For science!

In the last two shade tests the longevity of the manicure was extended by adding another top coat. Wayyyy better results. Further proving to me that you don't have to stick to any steps as outlined by these companies. "MUST USE 3 STEP SYSTEM FOR EXTRAORDINAIRE GEL-LACQUE RESULTS"; nah Star. I do like the inclusion of a base coat since that prevents nail beds from getting stained by more pigmented colours. The base coat in this regime reminds me of Orly 'Bonder'...just with a less tacky (sticky?) finish.

These polishes do sport a very high shine when first applied but it doesn't last. I do appreciate how fast the 'gel-color' dries. It's a quick manicure - well relatively - if you don't mind the base coat step. I have to state again though, if it doesn't have to cure under a UV light it's not a gel polish. L'Oreal doesn't out-and-out market these as such on the website but on the Step 1 & 3 packaging they state: "NO UV LAMP REQUIRED. QUICK DRY. NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY". Cheeky buggers.

Have you tried any of these polishes? What's your wear time been? Let us know in the comments.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Top Ten Sephora VIB Sale Recommendations

It's that time again. I'm not sure of the dates as yet but one major thing has changed: Sephora no longer ships to commercial addresses 😡I discovered this recently after two of my orders were cancelled. Their customer service said it is something they were cracking down on since late July. Stupse. Sephora clearly ain't care about those of us who have to use mail forwarders. Soooooo yeah...less hauls for me in the future which I am annoyed about. More money for Beautylish den *insert Kanye shrug*

Regular readers have seen my wish list posts every time the sale is approaching. I love watching these types of videos on YouTube so I always want to throw my hat in the ring. There are a couple recommendation posts on this blog as well but this year I wanted to narrow it down to my top ten. Now, of course they're plenty favourites I'd like to mention but in efforts to make this concise...
