It's A Dupe!

M.A.C vs Maybelline powder www.modenmakeup.com
posted on our Facebook page April 12, 2013
"DUPE ALERT: M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark vs Maybelline Fit Me! in 355 Coconut. Both look the same applied to the face and are the same texture when swatched. The Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is bigger by 1 gram but the Fit Me! is significantly cheap... *ahem* more "inexpensive". There is one shade darker in the M.A.C version but 355 is the darkest shade in the Maybelline. (I'm NC50).
If you go through a lot of face powder it's worth a shot - LR"

Talk about a throwback!

I watched a dupe video on YouTube recently where this comparison was mentioned and it reminded me that I had the same thought a while ago. The finish on the skin is identical. Since this original post M.A.C has changed the packaging on their Mineralize line and Maybelline has rebranded/re categorised the Fit Me! range into: Dewy/Set + Smooth and Matte + Poreless.

M.A.C says: "A slow-baked powder with 77-Mineral Complex that provides a natural, dimensional finish. A slow-baked powder with 77-Mineral Complex that provides a natural, dimensional finish". It's available in 15 shades.

M.A.C Mineralize Natural original ingredients: "Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Isopropyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 20, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Yeast Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate,  Lauroyl Lysine, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol [+/- Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride, (CI 77163), Carmine (CI 75470), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI 77289), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985)]".

Ingredients listed on the redesigned packaging: "Mica, Talc, Dimethicone, Isopropyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Yeast Extract, Lauroyl Lysine, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol [+/- Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Bismuth Oxychloride, (CI 77163), Blue 1 Lake (CI 42090), Carmine (CI 75470), Chromium Hydroxide Green (CI 77289), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77283), Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Ultramarines (CI 77007), Red 6 (CI 15850), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850), Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140), Yellow 6 Lake (CI 15985)]" Check out Liz's review here.

Some items have been moved around or removed but generally the same formula.

Maybelline says: "Flawless. Beyond matching: Fresh, breathable, natural finish.

Shade-true powder.
New shades formulated for women of color, with 5D Pigment Technology.

Why You'll Love It

It's powder that fits you.
Natural finish that leaves skin the way it was meant to be…fresh, breathing, flawless
No oils, no waxes, no nonsense
Available in 18 breathable shades
".

Ingredients: "Talc, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Magnesium Stearate, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Nylon-12, Caprylyl Glycol; May Contain, Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides"

p.s. the 'new' Fit Me! Set + Smooth ingredients: "Talc, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Magnesium Stearate, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Nylon-12, Caprylyl Glycol (+/- May Contain: Mica, Cl 77891/Titanium Dioxide, Cl 77491, Cl 77492, Cl 77499/Iron Oxides)".

So there's a quite a difference between the two powder formulas unlike in other dupe posts that I've done, but from the perspective of how these powders look and perform on the skin, there's little to none. If you're a fan of the M.A.C powder and you repurchase it often switching to the Maybelline one could save you approximately $26USD each time. That's considerable savings.

Have you tried either of these powders? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

***update***

The M.A.C powder retails locally for $101BDS DP and the Maybelline one is $16.95.

M.A.C Shiny Pretty Things Haul

In the most tardy local M.A.C Holiday release ever, Shiny Pretty Things was made available when the new store finally opened in The Colonnade Mall on December 3rd.

From YouTube chatter, it seemed like the eyeshadow singles and the Extra Dimension Skinfinish 'Snowflushed' were the hot ticket items. 'Snowflushed' is supposedly a big pan of 'Stylishly Merry'. To me, those thing were definitely mesmerizing to look at but the lip glasses were the unexpected stunners.

At this point, M.A.C items in limited edition packaging are collector's pieces. Right? Right. I was more looking at what would make great gifts.

Matte Metallic 'Straight Fire'
The matte bright fuchsia 'Both Cheeks' looked gorgeous too but we all know I barely wear pink lipstick.
