Would I Repurchase? Maybelline Lash Sensational (Waterproof)

From Maybelline's site: "Did you know your lashes grow in more than just one layer? New Lash Sensational Mascara unfolds layer upon layer of lashes for the new full fan effect.

Why You'll Love It

Try New Lash Sensational Mascara from Maybelline New York for a sensational full fan effect. Our first patented fanning brush with 10 layers of bristles reveals a full flourish of lashes. Liquid Ink formula coats from all sides.

For Best Results

1) Use inner curve to reach the roots of lashes
2) Follow through tips of lashes with longer bristles to fan out
"

I purchased mine in New York last year but since then I have seen it on local shelves in Collins and Massy Stores for between $14 and $17. Inadvertently, I picked up the waterproof formula.

Rubber bristle wands like these are notorious for separating lashes. Maybelline claims that since theirs is an "open fan brush" shape/style it will provide volume. I really don't see any "layers of bristles"... more like evenly spaced rows. If you're looking for a real volume building Maybelline mascara try their The Falsies Volum' Express Flared. I hope the photo above adequately shows that the convex side (the side that looks like a belly sticking out) of the wand features bristles that vary in length; the longest ones being in the middle. The concave side has very short bristles. Like most Maybelline mascaras, this does have a bit of a scent to it.

I found it possible to use the shorter bristle side on my lower lashes if I was careful. The overall wand is sizeable so it's possible to get product on your skin if you don't take your time. This "Liquid Ink" formula that Maybelline is bragging about is pigmented; I got the shade 'Very Black'. It is possible to build volume with this combination of mascara formula and wand with two - three coats but you'd have to work quickly.

Now we're getting to reason why I wouldn't repurchase. Waterproof mascaras set too quickly for my liking. I like any Maybelline mascara that claims to give a "full fan effect" because that's what I take my time to create with all mascaras. I pay particular attention during application to direct my outermost lashes as far out as they can go. If you don't work quickly enough with a waterproof mascara when you attempt to layer the product you will cause flaking. No bueno.

Waterproof mascaras also take special attention to remove. No simple washing off in the shower for these babies. No mere makeup remover wipes either. Prepare yourself to go in with an oil based cleanser or something like Bioderma...unless you wanna lose some lashes.

I understand that some people have trouble with mascaras smearing or transferring so in those cases a waterproof formula may be their best bet. Since I don't usually have those issues I'm gonna stay clear of them. I like to take my time and build my mascara soul...

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

Summer Standouts

It feels strange to talk about beauty products with all that's going on in the Caribbean. Our neighbours are going through some seriously trying times and I implore you to give whatever you can. 🙏

I didn't even realise that this was a running theme. Last year's was especially good since it featured some of my favourite combinations. Like last year, makeup seems to have taken a backseat this Summer.

There's only one item here that surprised me...but let me not get ahead of myself.
Y'all know exfoliators are a must in my skin and body care routine so the Bath & Body Works 'Lavender & Sandalwood' Clay Body Scrub and Coco Shea 'Coconut' Richly Nourishing Body Buff (thanks to the Mistress!) should come as no real shocker. Both smell amazing; again no shocker since regular readers know I'm a firm aromatherapy believer.
