Black Opal Makeup Party

Recently Contour Beauty hosted a Makeup Party featuring Black Opal cosmetics. The owner, Patricia, wanted to reintroduce the brand to consumers as well as update us on recent additions.

We've all known about Black Opal for years. Their Total Coverage and True Color foundations/concealers are readily available in local beauty supply stores. The Invisible Oil Blocking Loose Powder is #TeamModenApproved. But many of us do pass over the brand in favour of others since L'Oreal, NYX and Maybelline etc. frequently release new products.

Some time last year, Black Opal launched a Pore Perfecting Liquid Foundation that was added to the True Color line. Heidi shared her thoughts on that product here.

What I didn't know was available from Black Opal was brushes.

During the makeup demonstration, Patricia used some of her favourites on the model. The notable ones were: the powder brush (shown above), an eyeshadow blending/crease brush and a flat liner brush that was used to define eyebrows. The model's look was touched up from casual/work appropriate to suitable 'after hours'; completed with an ombre lip.

I think the hit of the evening was the new True Color Perfecting Primer.

The Black Opal site says it's available in five shades.

Patricia also reinforced the importance of moisturizing your skin - even if your skin type is oily. Black Opal skin care products can be found under their Even True brand; the line is further categorized by skin type/concern.

Then of course, everybody loves lip products...

They also have new waterproof gel lip liners that are apparently very popular.

Black Opal Makeup Party patrons

I think Black Opal has solid products on offer and the price range is comparative to other drugstore brands. Since the makeup was designed for women of colour there's a greater chance of finding shades that will match our skin/undertones. Patricia brings her vast cosmetics knowledge base to her brand therefore customers benefit from the advice of a Professional.

Contour Beauty promised to have more events like this one so we can get insight into the brands they carry. All in all the patrons seemed to have a great time: shopping, sipping wine and nibbling on cheese and grapes. Us Beauty Lovers appreciate any chance to meet up and touch pretty things :)

Contour Beauty is located in Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Unlike my Influencers post the persons mentioned below are all local and I know them. If that makes me biased then you should take everything I'm about to say with a grain of salt.

Heidi Bowen of Moden Makeup

Let's get the obvious one out of the way shall we 😉 I've said before how much I've learned watching Heidi conduct her Workshops. Since then she has increased her skillset, restructured her modules and truly focused on knowledge sharing. Every participant departs feeling enlightened; emboldened to try something they once thought was daunting. No one leaves empty handed. This kindda thing speaks to me because I've attended many M.A.C classes and saw the value only in the products I was reimbursed. Not to say, the outing isn't a good time - especially if you go with friends - but some settings leave you more intimidated than excited. #TeamModen affiliations aside, I can see how Heidi has grown as a Beauty Educator. And fuh my one part I know any session booked…
