Sephora VIB Haul Spring 2016

Sephora offers only 15% off in their April sale. A lot of people complain about this since in essence, that isn't much of a discount. Yet, we just can't resist.

This is part one of my haul. It's small by Lucinda standards lol. That's mostly because I made another order shortly before the sale began.

Yup, that's it. Two things: the Drunk Elephant All Glowy Set and the Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer '11 Deep'. Both were recommendations from YouTubers I watch regularly - Stephanie Nicole and Sarah respectively. The 15% saved me $16.27USD before tax. Not as much as last November's haul but still something especially when combined with the cash back from Ebates1.

Let us know what you picked up from Sephora recently in the comments.

#ShamelessPlug there's another Clinique concealer available in The Marketplace.

Top Five Money Saving Tips For Makeup Shopping

Yes, yes the shopaholic has money saving tips.

1. Wait.

Absolutely hilarious coming from me right? I know. Yes, the companies rile us up making damn near everything limited edition. Yes, FOMO (fear of missing out) is real. Yes, we buy into the hype and feel like, "I gotta have it!" But I've realised that the hype machine - social media mostly - is always spewing out something new and we literally can't keep up with every new product. Also, limited edition items are often restocked/re-released - or worse, made permanent *cough* Champagne Pop *cough*

2. Research.

Tying nicely in with the first point is the fact that after real consumers - actual people that aren't on anyone's payroll, like you and me - get these internet glorified items into our hands we're often left feeling like, "this is it?" Wherever possible please do your research before you part with your money. You do have to take into account how you differ from the messenger. Use the inf…

Travel Essentials | Skincare

I always overpack. What about you? I don't know where I got it from but I always take more clothes than I actually need when I'm going anywhere. Since I've seriously gotten into makeup I tend to overpack those kinda items too...but we'll get into that in another post.

One area that've become proficient in though is skincare. I've realised that even if I'm just going to another Caribbean country I can't lagg when it comes to skincare because that dry recycled airplane air and my skin are not friends. We doan gree. So I doan play.

Below are the skincare items I don't travel without. Conveniently I currently have the majority of them in samples sizes but when I don't I decant my full sized bottles so I can take these things in my carry on. Something else to note: if I'm going to the US I usually head to a drugstore to get a pack of makeup remover wipes, cotton pads and a face cleanser, so I don't always bring those items from home.

Would I Repurchase? Estee Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum

It's not surprising that one of our most popular posts is a comparison of two dark spot correctors. Everyone is one the hunt for that remedy to cure hyperpigmentation. Including myself; I've tried lots of serums, exfoliators and toners in hopes of finding a cure all. This product is another to add to the long list.

Product Rave | thisworks deep sleep

As seen in Pure Source Barbados
This is a classic example of why good customer service is so important. Had it not been for Francoise's recommendation I wouldn't have given this range a second glance. My initial purchases weren't even for myself.

After The Wife gave both the sleep plus pillow spray and the deep sleep stress less such a glowing review, I had to try them for myself. Yuh know when a line is good if their products make back-to-back favourites posts.

From the site: "A fast acting natural remedy to help restore healthy sleep patterns for restless sleepers. Clinically proven to provide a better night's sleep.

Can't sleep? 100% of restless sleepers said this "This Works"*

89% of ex-sleep prescription medication users would use sleep plus pillow spray in place of sleep medication

Revisit | First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser

Hello lovely #Mavenz
I am always on the hunt for affordable and appealing skincare. My routine is very simple and usually effective. Cleanse, tone, moisturise AND apply some good old Carmex lip balm.
On my last trip to NYC I needed a mild but acne fighting/clearing face wash. So I bought the FAB Pure Skin Cleanser. Here in Barbados my skin sucks. I breakout when I: sweat, eat chocolate, go to the beach; man whatever I do, I bump up. In colder climates I wake up flawless! So, my goal for 2016 is to achieve clear even toned skin. Yessss!!
So the 1 oz was my beat after IMATS last year and let me tell you, the PROS? Major!
Claim to Fame:  W/ FAB Antioxidant Booster Remove: Surface Oils Makeup Dirt Grime Safe for Sensitive Skin
PROS: It really does remove all of my makeup It doesn't break me out Has a pleasant fragrance My skin feels ultra clean  It's inexpensive!! ($20USD from Sephora)
Cons: Can be drying around my nose If it goes up my nostrils it burns like heck (don't ask h…

My Current Fave Face Creators

Hi #Mavenz

Baby is asleep so I can chat for a bit!!!
Hope all is well, we have a few irons in the fire... We hope that you are ready for #ModenCosmetics big public launch. We hosted one for our MUA/enthusiast friends recently but this one is especially for you. So stay locked to this space!
Onto the juice!

If you follow us on Snapchat - @modenmakeup - you would have seen the photo above. I also placed it on Instagram.
That foundation I am yet to use on myself BUT I believe in it already and I'll get to the why in a hot minute.
Let's start with the Ben Nye Final Seal.
We live in the tropics. So skin prep and finish are paramount. Want to look like you were overhauling an engine 15 minutes after you apply your makeup? Well all you have to do is skip primer and setting spray. In my humble opinion our climate is really not suited to most liquid foundations. Creams (bb or otherwise are more feasible). However, since most of our followers and people we encounter in general barely dr…
