Product Rave | Flori Roberts Enlighten Perfect Tone Skin Prep

How great is it when your expectations are low and then you're pleasantly surprised?

When Heidi and I visited Dionne (245-1331) in March last year we bought a few things from Flori Roberts. I had never heard of the brand before but Heidi's Mum later confirmed that it's been around for a long time.

From the website: "Flori Roberts, first in quality, first in effectiveness.

The first cosmetics for women of color to be sold in upscale department stores, Flori Roberts continues to bring the finest formulations in black skin care and african-american skin care, unsurpassed for melanin rich skin. View Flori Roberts wide range of products for women of Color.

Designed specifically for black skin care, Flori Roberts is at the forefront. With special attention to priming the canvas, exfoliation is considered key to the African American skin care ritual. The values are incredible, and these products give you a wonderful opportunity to try before you buy.

Now, Flori Roberts brings a new line to market, Enlighten Skin Perfecting System. It delivers smooth even skin in 30 days, by featuring a new miracle ingredient called EMBLICA, an extract from the Amla tree, from India.

Additionally, precision color matching is another secret to the flawless Flori look. With the widest variety of foundation formulas and shades, you will LOVE the skin you are in. Click here for conversion chart. Flori Roberts, first in quality, first in effectiveness.

Sounds interesting.

Earlier this year I finally opened the toner that I purchased. Regular readers know that I have a few in my stash since I like to update you on my quest to finding the best one. Flori Roberts claims that this Enlighten system is..."the most dramatic breakthrough ever for skin of color. Enlighten naturally brightens and dramatically evens skin tone and fades discolorations. Exclusively formulated with Emblica, an herbal extract, which is clinically proven as effective as hydroquinone but without any of the negative side effects. And, as an anti-oxidant, Enlighten will improve the skin's overall health." I don't even remember if Dionne had the entire Enlighten range but I choose the toner since the ingredient list sounded pretty good.

"Tones skin while also soothing, healing and decongesting with ingredients like aloe, cucumber and ivy extracts. Key Ingredients: Studies show that Emblica gives the skin a brighter, more even look in 6-9 weeks."

It doesn't usually have that white foam on top I dropped the bottle prior to taking the pic. This is solid product; no added fragrance - it does have a slight citrus/floral scent but that dissipates quickly enough - , alcohol derivatives in low quantities and the herbal extract the company is boasting about is third on the ingredient list. The only nuisance I encountered is a personal preference thing: the dispenser is like those on the Pink Oil Moisturizer (I'm #retro, I know). I prefer the stopper type opening like the one featured on the REN Clarifying Toning Lotion. So I put the REN stopper in this bottle and every crisp.

Flori Roberts recommends using this in conjunction with the other three products in the Enlighten system. Obviously. I think if you already have a skin care regime that works this could be a nice addition. Even if you already have a toner; maybe it's of the more exfoliating variety. This could be the milder version you only use in the morning. This is listed on the site for $20USD. Dionne retails them at $44BDS for the 8 fl. oz. That's more product than the REN or Clarins toners I've previously reviewed for less money. Winning!

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

#Anti-Haul | My Brand Blacklist

In keeping with the Brand Awareness series, I was planning to do a Beauty Brands Drama series and discuss just that. The idea was scrapped cause really, I like to laugh and ting at dem tings but they don't truly matter in the grand scheme of life. What does matter though is that we be smart consumers. Let's not fall into mob mentality - whether for or against. Let's spend our money wisely and less susceptible to marketing ploys.

By all means, spend your money how you want. Like whichever brand you choose. Rep whomever influencer you "love". This is just my 10¢.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics

I bought one of his liquid lipsticks; I wore it once and then I threw it away (I didn't like the scent). Yuh see, I actually believe that this man is just an entertainer. He likes to say things for shock value. He likes the limelight...loves the attention. What he actually believes? I don't know if we'll ever really know. What I know fuh sure though is that he ain't tu…
