#MMWC Week One | Full Face Drugstore

Moden Makeup Weekly Challenge - #MMWC - an initiative suggested by Sharalee to get us all back into using our collections. She must have subliminally heard that I was in a rut. Whatever the case, I think it's a great idea and a few of you Mavenz have agreed to go on the journey (how philosophical does that sound?) with me. Thank you.

Week one is all about using drugstore/inexpensive/beauty supply store makeup. Victoria raised an interesting point that I wish to clarify: the purpose isn't for us to buy products to be able to carry out the challenge. This is a shop your stash ting.

As Heidi would say, here's the beauty breakdown:

Eyes
Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder 'Dark'
NYX Eyeshadow 'Rust'
Wet 'N Wild ColorIcon Eyeliner 'Bronzed'
Jordana Fabu Liner Liquid Eye Liner 'Black'
Maybelline Lash Discovery Waterproof 'Very Black'
Almay One Coat Get Up & Grow 'Blackest Black

I applied my eye makeup first this toss. This isn't usual for me since my preferred look is perfected skin and minimal product on the eyes. Good thing I used that strategy though cause the fall out from the Milani baked shadow was nuff! That's probably because I set the Absolute New York primer with my face powder instead of just going in with eyeshadow. It was the first time I used that Jordana liquid liner and it din come out so hot. The applicator tip is much like the NYC one I spoke about before and dem marker like tings like dey ain't for me. Hence, Barry M pigment had to be used to make things look respectable

Skin
L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Golden Serum
e.l.f Makeup Mist & Set (to dampen my foundation brush)
Yes To Blueberries Age Refresh Cleansing Facial Wipes
L.A.Girl PRO.conceal High Definition Concealer 'Fawn'
e.l.f High Definition Undereye Setting Powder 'Sheer'
Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder 'Dark'
L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Contour Contour & Highlight Palette 'Deep'

Technically I should have put the wipes with the eye makeup since I used them to clean up the fallout from the Barry M pigment. This challenge is great because it should cause us to bust out some old faithfuls as well as - if you're like me - finally open products you've had for a while. There were a lot of newcomers in this rotation: the L'Oreal primer, Revlon pressed powder, e.l.f under eye setting powder as well as the 'Fawn' shade of the L.A. Girl concealer. I'm sure I'll have plenty more to say about these products since I have a few comparison posts in the pipeline. Especially for the face primer which has been compared to a $74USD one by Guerlain.

To keep with the drugstore theme I even cracked open my Garnier Skin Active Micellar Cleansing Water on a dried up makeup remover wipe instead of using the Bioderma.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Summer Standouts

It feels strange to talk about beauty products with all that's going on in the Caribbean. Our neighbours are going through some seriously trying times and I implore you to give whatever you can. 🙏

I didn't even realise that this was a running theme. Last year's was especially good since it featured some of my favourite combinations. Like last year, makeup seems to have taken a backseat this Summer.

There's only one item here that surprised me...but let me not get ahead of myself.
Y'all know exfoliators are a must in my skin and body care routine so the Bath & Body Works 'Lavender & Sandalwood' Clay Body Scrub and Coco Shea 'Coconut' Richly Nourishing Body Buff (thanks to the Mistress!) should come as no real shocker. Both smell amazing; again no shocker since regular readers know I'm a firm aromatherapy believer.
