Mask Monday | Boscia Charcoal Pore-Minimizing Hydrogel Mask

First a bit of housekeeping: Alicia Norville please email me at lucinda@modenmakeup.com pronto 😉

So all those masks were for this series...and what better way to start than with your request. Marsha said she was interested in the Charcoal mask; here we are. I should really start by saying that I've never used a sheet mask of any type before despite having a few around here for a couple years. Then when the hype around them went into overdrive I was super skeptical. Hopefully by the end of it all we'll see if they're worth it or not.

From their site: "Innovative 100% hydrogel mask that minimizes the appearance of pores, purifies, and smoothes skin texture. Custom 2-piece design seals in treatment benefits and allows Bamboo Charcoal and Marine Collagen to gently and thoroughly remove blackheads and absorb impurities for a soft, refined, and renewed complexion. “Noticeable pores a major task? Not when you have this hydrogel mask!”

(Spray) Toner Woes

So the last toner comparison post was in 2015. Since then I've let you know about a few others that I've been liking. Now I want to introduce you too some spray toners that I've got in rotation.

All, or at least most, of the other toners I've previously mentioned have been chemical exfoliants. As I mentioned in this post, Caroline Hirons also recommended incorporating hydrating toners in your skincare regimen. Here are the first three hydrating spray toners that we're gonna discuss:

The bottles look wet because I keep them in the fridge. I mostly use these toners to neutralize the Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970. They're great for a 'refresher' any time of the day. These could also be used in place of M.A.C Fix+ to decrease the powdery look after makeup application. Of course, they could also be used prior to makeup application to boost hydration.

Omorovicza Queen of Hungary Mist

I told you recently that a sample made me buy this. This is also a very…

Eyeshadow Declutter

For how much I love and prefer coloured pencil eyeliners over eyeshadows I can't believe how difficult this was for me. It's ridiculous.

After going through my collection, I could only manage to part with the following...

I can't remember if I've used those DIY palettes since making them but after the depotting stress I went through, those ain't going anywhere. Apart from those I still have three large palettes, two small ones and bariffle of pigments. How sway?

Hopefully I can tackle this again at the end of the year and actually make some progress 😔

Have you decluttered anything recently? Let us know in the comments.

M.A.C Fruity Juicy Haul

For the first time ever M.A.C's Summer launch packaging din pulling me. I know. It was shocking to me too. I mean, I get the whole retro vibe but to me the graphics like dem belong on the border of yuh grandmudda plastic place mats...or one of those disposable tablecloths that yuh does only carr tuh picnics down Bath 🙈 Anyho, a loyal #MACBarbados shopper I am so off I went.

A lot of the beauty vloggers I watch were going on and on about the Fix+ 'Coconut' in limited edition packaging so that was on my radar. I thought I should get a lipstick to add to the collection. Aaaaaaaannnnnnnnd that's it. I really wasn't fussed. Is that all I bought? Of course not, I'm always picking up extra items for upcoming giveaways.

Reasonings
I would have prefered the berry lipstick - 'Si, Si, Me!' - but in typical M.A.C TransAmericas …

Samples Made Me Buy It

Check out part two here.

Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask

I'm a fan. The biggest size is 3.4 oz. for $26USD. Compare that to the GlamGlow SuperMud at 1.7 oz for $69USD.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser
I told y'all I was buying this

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser
If you follow me on Instagram you know I rave about this already. I'm excited to finally have the full size. Jen is the first person I heard talk about this but the lovely staff at Pure Source Barbados speak highly about it too.

Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Mascara

Funny thing is, I think I got the wrong one.

L'Occitane Almond Smoothing and Beautifying Supple Skin Oil

It smells amazing and this spray dispenser is what the NARS one is missing.

Let's show this series to all sales associates that are stingy with samples.

Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic Acid 3% Facial Wash

This is the first of those pending cleanser reviews that I told you about here. Initially, this would have gone into 'product rave' territory but after a bit more research it's only poka-poka.

From their website: "This all-purpose, oil-free, anti-aging, exfoliating cleanser contains a gentle form of Glycolic Acid to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging. Helps clarify the skin's appearance and smooth out the look of a rough texture.

Participants in a four-week consumer efficacy study reported*:

• 88% agreed they saw a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• 88% agreed their skin felt exfoliated
• 88% agreed their skin felt softer
• 84% agreed their skin appeared clarified
• 84% agreed their skin felt smoother
• 76% agreed they saw a reduction in the appearance of signs of aging

*A total of 25 female subjects, ranging in age from 35 to 65.

Benefits: 3% Glycolic Acid (AHA) - works as a chemical exfoliator to help …

$200 USD Skincare Haul | Sephora VIB Sale

The dust has settled. The craze has subsided. Sephora managed to get the orders out...although some came with different samples and some with no samples at all. 100 point perks got cancelled...never mind you placed your order at 3 am on the first day. Etc. etc. Laparkan has sent two of my three packages so here we are #judgenot 😉

From my Wish List post you could see that focus was on skincare. That part of the plan was adhered to though the outcome looks a lil different.

Somewhere in my early morning shopping mind I decided it was a good idea to get a bunch of masks to try. Look out for 'Mask Monday' posts shortly.

I really really tried to not purchase any lip products...but if you follow me on Periscope you'll see soon that that didn't work out. But lip scrubs count as skincare too right?

As I bitterly alluded to earlier, I didn't get the samples I chose or a 100 point perk that I was looking forward to but I am impressed with the size of the Supergoop sunscreen.…
