Mask Monday | Peter Thomas Roth Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

Just catching up on all these outstanding promises 😁😁😁

To make my Top Five yuh know it gaww be seyin serious. #TeamModen loves clay masks as y'all know. Mud masks give the same clarifying results without the potentially harsh drying. Now us oily skin folk embrace that "drawing out" feeling but truly, we need not completely strip our skin of its natural oils. I think this Irish Moor Mud Mask is a very happy medium. This is a review and not a first impression since I've completely used a mini of this product before.

From the website: "Purifying, decongesting and hydrating mask with odorless Irish Moor Mud helps draw out dirt, oil and grime as it infuses skin with moisture, vitamins, essential minerals and potent anti-oxidant benefits. With the highest level of organic content in the world, 9,000 year-old black Moor Mud is harvested by hand from the Irish countryside and combined with Hijiki Seaweed, Volcanic Ash and Activated Charcoal for powerful cleansing while helping to minimize the appearance of pore size, fine lines and wrinkles. Your skin is left looking pure, fresh, hydrated and radiant.

Benefits:
  • Irish Moor Mud - the result of the natural decomposition of herbs, flowers and plants over a period of thousands of years, this mud paste has an unusually high concentration of purifying bio-minerals, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids.
  • Hijiki Seaweed - this black sea vegetable grows wildly along the coasts of Japan, Korea and China, and has been used abundantly for centuries. Provides nutrition and hydration, and contains high levels of calcium, iron, and vitamins B1, B2 and C.
  • Volcanic Ash & Activated Charcoal - contain minerals that help draw out dirt, oil and grime, shrinking the appearance of pores.
Usage: Using fingertips, apply evenly on clean skin. Leave on for up to 10 minutes. Remove with a warm, damp washcloth and rinse skin thoroughly of any remaining residue. Use 2-3 times a week, or as desired. For external use only."

The putty like substance spreads easily. There's a faint mineral (?) like scent that doesn't linger.

This time I left it on for more that 10 minutes solely because I was doing other things. As I mentioned previously, I know this mask doesn't dry down completely so there's no harm in going over the suggested time.

Mask after about 15 minutes

The selling point of this mask is how soft it makes the skin after use. No tightness. No dryness. Since the instructions state to apply to clean skin I won't bother mentioning how clean my skin also felt. Maybe it's all my head but the word that immediately comes to my head is: balanced. Unlike with the DIY Clay and Charcoal mask, there's no need to follow up with a moisturizer. Unlike the Boscia Hydrogel mask, there's no desire to wash lingering residue off my face.

Ingredients: "WATER/AQUA/EAU, GLYCERIN, PEAT, CHARCOAL POWDER, POLYACRYLAMIDE, LAVA POWDER, SARGASSUM FUSIFORME EXTRACT, KAOLIN, BENTONITE, LACTIC ACID, C13-14 ISOPARAFFIN, ISOHEXADECANE, SODIUM ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, DIMETHICONE, XANTHAN GUM, DISODIUM EDTA, POLYSORBATE 80, LAURETH-7, SORBITAN OLEATE, SODIUM BENZOATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, MICA (CI 77019)." The ingredients from the website are the same as those on my packaging.

Of course you could make your own mask but if you ain't bout that life $58USD for 5 fl. oz. isn't a bad price especially considering this is something you could up to twice a week. But truly knowing us beauty lovers, we have plenty masks in rotation. Which brings me to the next point, you absolutely don't have to buy a full size since these 1.7 and 0.5 fl .oz. sizes are often in value sets. Those sizes last a long time so I feel it's totally worth the purchase.

Let us know if you've tried any Peter Thomas Roth masks in the comments.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

The beauty industry is really ovadoing it with the releases cause they realise consumers are just lapping it up. We really need to take stock of what we have and be more mindful of what we're purchasing.

Personally I'm at a point where not much excites me and I truly need to cut my eye at the people tings 😁 That and Auntie Mia wanna put VAT on online purchases 👀I dunno how we gine survive bout hey! Of course I still wanna support the local M.A.C counters and attend Beauty Tradeshows so I gotta be realistic. A low buy suits me just fine.
