Herbivore Botanicals PM Skincare Routine

Last year I outlined a fairly comprehensive night time routine with a couple of options. As I said then, I mainly listen to my skin and use whatever type of product it seems to be needing. Sometimes laziness or a migraine may keep me from doing any sort of a routine at all 😞 Thankfully, those days are in the minority.

If you're thinking of compiling a skincare routine, I'd like to offer this basic principle: day time - protect; night time - repair. That coupled with staying away from harmful ingredients and you're well on your way. Many brands will try to sell you on using numerous products in their range, claiming they "work best" together. That may be true but I am a skeptic. Once you know how active ingredients work you can use anything from any line. All that said, for the first time in a long time I've been using some products from Herbivore Botancials back-to-back and the routine ain't too shabby.

More about Herbivore Botanicals:

"We bring you products that are safe, non-toxic, and highly effective. We believe in tangible results you can see and feel, and we believe in the power of nature to bring these results.

Every ingredient that we include in our products is there for a specific therapeutic reason. We do not use fillers of any kind, meaning that almost every ingredient in our products is an “active” ingredient. This results in pure, highly concentrated, and effective formulas that are a rarity in the skincare and cosmetics world today. All of our formulas are original, created and tested by us, on real people — never on animals and always from scratch. All of our products have an emphasis on organic, high quality, and food-grade ingredients.

Knowing that everything we put on our skin quickly absorbs into our bodies, we ethically source the finest raw natural materials the earth has to offer. With ingredients ranging from French pink clay to Brazilian gemstones, we formulate treatments that combine essential vitamins, minerals, and botanicals to restore skin to its optimum health and vitality.

In addition to creating products that give you noticeable results, we also create our products with personal rejuvenation and a little indulgence in mind. We believe that daily bathing and skincare rituals should be enjoyable — a way to carve out some much-needed downtime in your hectic routine. From thoughtfully designed packaging and labels that really allow our ingredients to shine through, to intoxicating scents and luxurious textures, we truly want you to love your skincare and bathing routines.

Obviously the real first step is washing your face. Read more about my latest favourite cleanser here.

I stumbled upon this combo one night when my skin felt oily and congested. Initially I was concerned that the Blue Tansy and Prism could not be used together. So far no issues. Maybe they're both mild exfoliators and y'all know I already use big dawgs in that department. Herbivore's mists and facial oils are where the brand really shines, in my opinion. That's my limited opinion of course since I haven't tried everything from the line.

Thanks to my trusty Supervisor Erik 😄

I knew I would like this Jasmine mist since I loved the scent of May Lindstrom's. Pink Cloud is what surprised me the most. After my face was super dry post vampire facial, I was piling on the moisturizers. That formula nourishes without leaving my skin greasy.

This four product Herbivore combo leaves my skin feeling clean and supple. The chemical exfoliators aren't harsh and hydrating mist and creme are great for combination/oily skin types. I might incorporate this routine once a week. All of these products came from one set or another and I greatly appreciate Herbivore making these trial sizes available.

One important thing to note: due to Herbivore's use of natural ingredients some products can change colour. Management says that doesn't meant they've lost their potency but reminds us to store our products in a cool, dark place and use within a year. Yet another reminder not to stock pile skincare.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Most Expensive Skincare

I love looking through the blog and seeing if my thoughts have changed. In this case, I'm updating this post but limiting it to skincare. The other difference is, I've not formulated my final position on every product so I can't call it a favourites post. Here are some of the most expensive skincare items I've tried to date.

Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum - $185USD

Stephanie Nicole raved about this when it released and I was hooked. I haven't reviewed it as yet because I'm still not sure if it's worth the price. That said, I think it's a product I would repurchase because I've grown to love the scent and I can use it when my skin is extremely sensitive. I've seen numerous reviews - posted by the brand for what they're worth - saying that this has replaced numerous steps in skincare routines. If you think of it like that, it's worth it. This is labelled as a serum but it's a facial oil.
