My Foundations: Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer

This series took a hiatus due to:

  • I barely leave the house so I have to devise a new method for wear tests, and
  • I am having real trouble finding an accurate foundation shade.
Shade matching has to be the predominant challenge when shopping for a new foundation. I admire anyone that can guess their match from watching YouTube reviews, or better yet, just from colour indicators on the brands' websites. Thing is I have purchased a lot of foundations on the quest to find the right one. So there's plenty to talk about. Here's one of the many that didn't work for me.

From the Milani website:

Meet the hardest working multi-tasker in your cosmetics bag! Combat under eye circles, redness and other skin imperfections with our water-resistant, foundation + concealer in one flawless, perfecting step! This lush, creamy rich formula applies evenly to perfect and conceal with a natural looking finish. Lightweight full coverage and all-day wear for a beautiful, even skin tone. Available in 29 shades

29 wasn't the original launch number and I don't think I've seen all those in Barbados. Honestly I haven't checked recently. I purchased '11 Amber' described as "Dark with Warm Yellow Undertone" and '12 Spiced Almond' described as "Dark with Neutral Undertone." At the time of purchase, each bottle retailed for $18BDS from Beauty Works.

swatches dried after a few minutes

The shades didn't oxidize but the dry down (settling?) is an umph darker than freshly applied. That doesn't matter in this case because neither works for me.

de heat got my skin inna state!

Milani claims this formula is: medium to full coverage, lightweight and oil-free as well as longwearing, water-resistant and sweat-proof. All lovely things that most of us in hot climates are looking for in a foundation. I can attest that the coverage is impressive. It's always best to get a full coverage foundation and then sheer it out to your specifications. Maybe if I was a pro I would be able to mix these shades to get something suitable for me but alas, I am not.

The foundation comes in an ombréd glass bottle and features a pump dispenser. The standard 1 fl. oz / 30 ml is in the bottle. It's a great offering from Milani and I would love to find my shade 😩

  1. Sis I wanted to try this foundation but had a similar problem.....shade range wasn't conducive. I haven't seen 29 shades of this in Barbados either....

    1. I've recently seen some newer ones (they have 'a' after the number) in both Paradise Beauty Supply locations,

Well howdy to a flaming 2020 💣

Ok, let's remain positive and do what we have to to beat this thing.

If you're looking for a brief escape from the onslaught of bad news, #nojudgementzone here. Let me hop back into this blogging thing for a much needed source of distraction and hopefully; a lil product information.

We've never really talked about perfumes before so let's do that:

Maison Margiela REPLICA 'Dancing On The Moon' 0.04 fl. oz.

Description: "Dancing On The Moon is an invitation to an extraterrestrial escape.
The fragrance delicately combines a bouquet of white flowers with a soft mineral side.
White Jasmine flower is lifted by aldehydes and moonflower notes.
As the perfume evolves, the warmer notes of ambergris, musk and vanilla emerge.

Feel the weightlessness of your body slip away from reality.
Your ethereal moves cast pale shadows on the lunar landscape.
A gracious defiance.

This bright Eau de Parfum is part of the Replica Fantasies Collection.

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.
