Overview | Milani Color Statement Lipsticks

How many times have you heard me talk about these products on keek?

I was first introduced to these lipsticks, as with most things, via YouTube. Milani Cosmetics have been seriously revamping their products and image and the word is spreading like wildfire. One of the stand out products on the tips of all the vloggers' tongues: the Color Statement lipsticks. These come in 30 different colours and a variety of finishes.

From Milani's website: "Make a statement without saying a word! True Instant Color. One stroke, full coverage application. This next generation lipstick gives the ultimate in color, texture and finish. The lightweight creamy formula contains Vitamins A, C, & E to moisturize and nourish lips. Paraben-free. Available in Vinyl, Metallic, Cream, Shimmer, Pearl & Matte finish"As far as I can see, there's no finish noted on the packaging so you have to look very closely at the end caps to spot any differences.

Milani products can also be found in Diamond Girl

Strangely enough, I'm yet to see the new products in Caribbean Queen.

Anyho, my first purchase was 'Teddy Bare'. I had seen many women of colour say this was an excellent nude - not like the walking dead - for our complexion and I figured it was a shade I would use a lot. Every location currently has these lipsticks for $11.99BDS. The first noticeable thing is the scent. Some vloggers compare it to watermelon or watermelon jolly ranchers. I still can't quite place it but I didn't fancy it. Thankfully it didn't linger after application. I was immediately pleased with the texture though. It passed across the lips with no tugging. The nude colour applied evenly and was buildable. As you could imagine, I went back for more...

How many lipsticks does one girl need huh?
'Best Red' (Matte), 'Flamingo Pose' (Cream). 'Flirty Fuchsia' (Vinyl), 'Raspberry Rush' (Metallic), 'Uptown Mauve' (Cream), 'Sangria' (Matte), 'Teddy Bare' (Cream)

You can see all of the swatches on my Instagram page or check out a few here. I even ran down my current favourites in this post where you can also see a lot of comparisons. I like the vinyl finish the least and I won't be purchasing any of the pearl or shimmer ones.

The deeper shades are not as forgiving as 'Teddy Bare'. Firstly, they stain. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. Staining qualities definitely add to the longevity but if your lips aren't smooth the product can wear away patchy. Not a good look.
Secondly, some of these are so creamy it encourages transfer. I get that especially under my bottom lip; am I the only one? You certainly need a lipliner with those bright babies. Leesha from Xsparkage recently did this video on extending the life of your lipstick. Jackie aka lilpumpkinpie05 has also shared tips on how to achieve the perfect red lip. I have found that blotting after the first application and then reapplying has significantly decreased the amount of transfer I encounter.

I still see myself getting the most use out of 'Teddy Bare' but 'Uptown Mauve' is my current favourite...that ain't stopping me from hunting down the elusive 'Violet Volt' though.

Have you tried any of these lippies? What's your favourite finish?

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

It's A Dupe!

Long time no dupe.

Faithful readers would have seen me rave about the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, a.k.a Face Cement, numerous times. Well, we have a dupe: The Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer. I knew it instantly. So instantly that I've used the MUFE twice and decided that it's ridiculous to keep both since they are the same.

You can read all about the Becca primer in the link above so I'm just going to talk about the MUFE version here.
