Thank You

I think the most satisfying thing ever for me is when people say thank you. When I began posting products I found in Barbados on Facebook , I never thought people would get it.  However, Mavenz you do! You appreciate what we do. We love sharing info and giving small businesses a platform.  It can be expensive especially timewise. Lucinda dedicates an enormous amount of time, face and of course money. Her comparison reviews are unparalleled, and funny. Truly a labour of love.  I visit multiple locations in a day to take photos, talk to store owners about products they should invest in AND provide the means to facilitate quality content for you all. It's a sacrifice we thoroughly enjoy lol. We are going to thank you in the best way we know how. By creating an avenue for you to...well you'll find out soon enough.  So stay tuned, keep commenting, emailing. Our goal as always is to keep you in the know. We are the makeup company for the people🙏 Xox

Sick Day(s) Saviour

Men, some bug dat going round hit me wid an ole man cough that near gimme de tissit. Thanks to the Mistresses' tlc and three things I'm slowly getting back to my usual self. Sleep You've heard it a million times but it's oh so true, your body needs rest. I love to sleep but funny enough I haven't been sleeping well for quite some time. So true to form, when you don't give your body the rest it needs it finds a way to take it. Don't be like me; get your rest. Do whatever you have to do to make it happen. That REM sleep is a must. Water Liquids in general but preferably ones without sugar. Drink your water. Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil This product is labelled as an organic moisturizing oil and it does just that. Apart from the death rattle in my chest the other thing that showed my ill health was my dehydrated skin. Yes, oily skin can be dehydrated. A few drops of this helped me look a little more alive. As with all beauty oils how much

Most Repurchased Skincare

For regular readers you probably all this stuff already but just incase you need it all in one place... Olay 4-in-1 Daily Facial Cloths When I first started using these they were bigger, the pack was cheaper and they only came in one type. Alas, the price of progress . I love these to take on the go since they do a very good job of removing makeup. As seen in Collins, Broad Street Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap 'Peppermint' I have bought so much of these it's almost ridiculous. Next time Imma just get the jumbo size and call it wally. This product is a hit with the gents too. Purchased from Jenn's REN Clean Skincare Clarimatte T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel Pricey but can't be beat when it comes to ingredients. St. Ives Green Tea Gel Cleanser For when I don't want to shell out the money for REN stuff. Clarins Toning Lotion With Iris Another hit with the gents. REN Clean Skincare Clarifying Toning Lotion The l

Moden Collabs

Hiya #Mavenz, Making up for lost time... A blog a day is no joke. I love working with different people. I'm always surprised when they know my work or compliment it.  I perceive myself to be a minimalist; that aesthetic where makeup is concerned is not greatly treasured locally. The heavier the makeup the better, for most. Enhancement is my love. However, I absolutely love some of the transformations I see on Instagram and Facebook. Before & after photos are my faves. Especially if the after is soft and pretty, not overdone, harsh or cakey.  So when Larry Mayers asked me almost two years ago if we could do a shoot together I was super excited. Anderson, told me he was a superb artist highly skilled in photography and he has worked with some of the best in the business. From Renee Ifill to Kamilah Codrington , Larry has had them onboard as the MUA's and made magic. So one early Sunday morning, 2 years after our initial conversation (lol). We fin

Treat yourself

Hi #Mavenz, Hope you've been following all the quality info and finding this #marchmadness blogging hustle as exciting as we have.  I've been doing lots of housework, sourcing furniture, starting two businesses, monitoring workmen and planning a big move. Ya know how it is leaving the nest. My main focus hasn't been makeup for the first time in about two years. I always try to treat myself monthly by getting my nails or hair done. Or even buying a new makeup item. However I've been in the doldrums since construction started. Being dusty and sweaty lifting blocks, cutting grass and some musty wild bush leaves little room for glam.  So last week when Lucinda and I met up we had an impromptu girlie day slash, evening mini shopping trip. We did some running around in the morning and then made our way to Get Set Makeup got an impromptu Moden haul. Then off to Cutters in the Crane, St. Philip for lunch, back to my house, beat her face and mine, filme

Organisation and Storage Tools available from Carter & Co. Ltd.

If you're like my girl Jodi and were wondering where your daily emails went let me just leave you with the old Yiddish proverb: "man plans and God laughs". Hopefully we can still knock out 31 posts this month. Pray for me . The Sort Your Stuff version of this post got a lot of positive feedback last year so I wanted to continue in that vein. Carter & Co. Ltd. has a long history of doing business in Barbados dating back to 1880-1890. You can read all about it here . There are four locations, the biggest of which is the Wildey branch. The majority of the following photos were taken there but I will start with one I took at their High Street store. Brand Awareness: Urban Decay image From Urban Decay's About Us page you'd discover that the company started in 1996 to provide customers with more colour options on the cosmetics scene. Not only their bold hues but the "outhere" product names took the industry by storm, especially the younger market. Through working with makeup artistes the brand has grown to a household name for beauty lovers. Urban Decay boast of being a cruelty brand that is working on going 100% vegan. L'Oreal acquired Urban Decay in 2013 taking over from Castanea Partners whom acquired it in 2009. In addition to bold colours and funky names the brand is also loved for its aesthetically pleasing packaging. Best sellers Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion has a cult following. The product did so well that they expanded the range to include three other shades. Their 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils had the coloured pencil market cornered for a while. But the brand must now mostly be known

Would I 'Repurchase'? L.A. Colors Cosmetics Lash Building Mascara

From the time you see 'repurchase' you know the deal, this was given to me . From the site : " WATER RESISTANT. LONG LASTING FORMULA. SPECIAL BRUSH APPLICATOR. Lash building mascara is specially formulated to maximize, lengthen, & thicken lashes. Special applicator brush separates each lash without clumping ". This is available in four colours, I have 'Navy Blue'. It's always so interesting to read the marketing blurb on a product after you've tried it and formed your opinions. LOL. Sometimes it's downright hilarious . Anyho... Pros: the product, like most L.A. Colors products are very inexpensive. This retails for approximately $5 - $8 wherever this brand is sold locally the mascara has a medium formula, i.e. not too wet or dry the colour is a true navy blue. That's good for anyone not looking to have overly obvious blue lashes  the natural bristles provide definition; it easily separates the lashes I experienced no flak
