(Second) First Impression: Bioderma Sensibio Sensitive Skin

Late 2014 and all of last year micellar waters were a hot topic. The most sought after of which was Bioderma. Originally only available in the UK, it's now accessible in the US via Beautylish. In standard beauty investigator fashion I had to try it to see what all the hype was about.

I passed up the opportunity to purchase Bioderma at IMATS NY last year but when Beautylish offered this great Black Friday deal I couldn't resist. One 500 ml bottle retails for 19.95USD. A 250 ml is $12.95USD. This deal was you pay $39.90USD for two 500 ml pump top bottles and get one 250 ml free. Beautylish also offers free shipping withing the US on orders over $35USD. A win all around.

It seems like the big draw to using this type of product is the convenience of removing all your makeup without having to wash your face with soap and water. Right on the bottle it says "non-rinse". Well, from my makeup remover wipe comparison posts you know that ain't my speed but I can see how that would appeal to people.

I titled this post a second 'first impression' because I used a sample of this product prior to buying the full size. Beautylish included samples of the Bioderma for Sensitive Skin and Combination/Oily skin types when I purchased the Wayne Goss Anniversary Brush Set.

I was impressed from the first use. It was a day during a #LipSwatchWeek and I had applied Estee Lauder Double Wear as my foundation. Sometimes I would use a cream or oil based remover instead of a makeup remover wipe. That day the cream remover was just making a mess; the Double Wear proved a lil too tough for it. In comes Bioderma to save the day. I used about three quarters of the sample in one go but it thoroughly got the job done.

Many beauty vloggers/bloggers I've seen rave about this use it solely for removing eye makeup. That makes a lot of sense. If you continually use this all over the face to remove makeup it would go pretty quickly. That may or may not bother you depending on how you feel about the price. The price is a determining factor since there are now cheaper alternatives on the market from Garnier and Simple. I have seen reviews though that say the Simple counterpart is not as gentle on the eyes. In the same vein there are also more expensive ones from Koh Gen Do, Lancome and plenty others.

How you use this type of product will determine if it's a solid purchase for you or not. I remember my first go round with this type of thing was the M.A.C Mineralize Charged Water Cleanser that I bought in 2012 for $77BDS.

Back then I thought these were to be used as toners and as you can see from the caption, I wasn't convinced it was worth the money. Now I know better. I would recommend this type of Bioderma for people with sensitive skin who are looking to cleanse their face without using anything harsh. Especially for the camp that as adopted the trend of only washing their face with soap and water at night; opting to use another method on mornings to remove whatever skincare they applied overnight.

I will be sticking to using makeup remover wipes and oil cleansers to initially remove my makeup but I will follow up with Bioderma to get rid of any stubborn eye makeup like extra pigmented mascara or those Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On eye pencils

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

Long time no dupe.

Corny? I know. I try.

Faithful readers would have seen me rave about the Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector, a.k.a Face Cement, numerous times. Well, we have a dupe: The Make Up For Ever (MUFE) Step 1 Skin Equalizer Mattifying Primer. I knew it instantly. So instantly that I've used the MUFE twice and decided that it's ridiculous to keep both since they are the same.

You can read all about the Becca primer in the link above so I'm just going to talk about the MUFE version here.
