Best In Beauty 2016

I was to do a Faves In Five post since October. After that didn't materialize I decided to compile everything here. So, prepare to scroll. Also, click the links for more information. Many of these items weren't new to the market in 2016, just new to me.

M.A.C 221

I almost went with the Wayne Goss #19 but I've come to expect a certain quality from his brushes. That's not to say that M.A.C quality is poor but sometimes it's the luck of the draw. This brush was sadly limited edition; they absolutely need to bring it back. Talk about a perfect blender brush for people with small eyes! Cha man.

I haven't tried every single item in the range but almost. They're one of my most repurchased and gifted products from Pure Source Barbados. They also make great Christmas travel size value sets.

A very special thank you to the Healthy Kinks Team for making available for purchase  - and delivering - a travel size care package. I'm getting full sizes of everything fo sho!

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Sculpting Gloss '420 Reckless Bloom'

This lives in my 'carry everywhere' bag. If I wasn't trying to reign in the spending I would buy a few more from this range.

Nest Dahlia & Vines Eau de Parfum

I never knew myself to be a big fan of floral perfumes but this hey convince me. This only proves that getting a sample of a product really could change your life.

"Dewy daffodils, peony, and rose are blended with the essence of garden vines. This combination reveals a romantic floral that exudes elegance, grace, and luxury.

Inspired by the works of 18th Century British artist Mrs. Mary Delany, Laura Slatkin collaborated with master perfumers to translate these works of art into luxurious fragrances that capture the essence of each of the botanicals that adorn the products' striking packaging.

Notes:
Dewy Daffodils, Peony, Rose, Garden Vines.
Style:
Elegant. Classic. Romantic.

I literally just talked about this.

Suki Concentrated Clarifying Toner

I'm impressed with every Suki product that I've tried by way of obtaining a sample from Pure Source Barbados. When I was collecting a few new toners for another round of comparisons I decided to put Suki in the mix. This product makes my face feel so soft and smooth. Suki has not let me down yet.

Viseart Eye Shadow Palette '4 Dark Mattes'

Sooooooooooo pigmented. So blendable...and the right kinda blendable cause they disperse but don't disappear. This formula just might be the eyeshadow for non-eyeshadow people.

Paula's Choice Resist Youth-Extending Mattifying Fluid

This has dethroned the Clarins sunscreen as the best I've tried. It has the thinnest formula ever which is a dream for us oily skin folk. Paula's Choice also allows you to purchase samples and trial sized kits.

L'Occitane Amande Shower Oil

Move over Aveeno Positively Smooth Shave Gel. Seriously, I haven't repurchased a shaving gel since I started using this.

Ilia Pure Eyeliner 'My Generation'

"A hybrid of muted violet hues blended with the deep tones of merlot. My Generation can be used as an accent colour along the lash line or blended out into the crease of the eye for a stronger look.

ILIA Pure Eyeliner brings rich, creamy colour to the eyes which blends and builds for a day to night look. Packed with the healing oils of vitamin E and sesame, they work alongside soothing butters of shea and coconut to moisturise and protect the delicate area of the eye.

Just impressive on a whole.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder 'Radiant Light'

I'm going back and forth about these Hourglass powders...I think it's the shade range; finding one that actually compliments darker skin tones. That said, the first time I tried 'Radiant Light' and saw the soft focus glow in a photo I was a believer.

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisturizing Leave-in Conditioner

Got my third bottle recently. One word of caution though: if you sweat from your scalp a lot like I do I wouldn't recommend using this when you have a sew-in.

Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 1970

If you are serious about acid toners then look no farther. Expect a full post on this.

Ole Henriksen Truth Sugar Glow Polishing Mask

This in on my 'get the full size' list for sure.

Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula™ Luxury Facial Oil

This is a late addition but it proved itself during my recent travels. If you want to combat the damages of recycled air get you some face oil. Even if you have oily skin. The 1 oz. size is $72USD though...lawddddddd.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer 'Radiance'

Ladies we are sleeping on radiance primers. I know what you're thinking: our oily skin is radiance enough. That was how I felt too until I gave this a try. Lord it pretty! Just don't apply on your nose 😀

I'm pretty much done with cream polishes from O.P.I but I can't deny that these two products from them are stellar.

Black Moon Cosmetics Liquid To Mattes 'Libra' and 'Wrath'

Classic case of 'when a product name makes you buy it'. I've worn 'Wrath' a few times in the latter half of 2016 and I am very impressed. Considering how many new lip products I have yet to open...let's just say, more to come on these.

Sharalee said there ain't nothing like it and she is so right. Every black woman should own this blush.

YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Waterproof '4'

I almost didn't include a mascara yuh. There are a few that I used for the first time last year but nothing moved me like Lancome Hypnose Drama. Til my wife sent me a lovely blue mascara and I was reminded of how much I like using them to add a pop of colour to my lower lashes.

and finally...

the Balm Cosmetics Overshadow The Sexpots

the Balm has the best packaging! And the names just fit the themes perfectly. These two eyeshadow pigments are called, 'you buy, I'll fly' and 'no money, no honey'. 💓 Better still, I got them from Hautelook1 at half price.

Sunday Riley Good Genes versus Drunk Elephant T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum

If you're an avid YouTube watcher you've probably heard about these products. Both brands blew up on the skincare seen in short order as expensive, but effective. If you're like me you quickly began to wonder: which is better? Short answer: it depends.

Long answer...

I've mentioned Good Genes a few times before on the blog. This 'all-in-one lactic acid treatment' is raved about by the likes of Stephanie Nicole and Caroline Hirons.

From the box: "Deeply exfoliates the dull surface of the skin for clarity, radiance, and younger-looking skin. Visibly brightens the appearance of age spots and discolorations. Instantly plumps the look of fine lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes*

*Clinically tested and proven to significantly improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles in 3 minutes. Results obtained via profilometry analysis.

Summer Standouts

It feels strange to talk about beauty products with all that's going on in the Caribbean. Our neighbours are going through some seriously trying times and I implore you to give whatever you can. 🙏

I didn't even realise that this was a running theme. Last year's was especially good since it featured some of my favourite combinations. Like last year, makeup seems to have taken a backseat this Summer.

There's only one item here that surprised me...but let me not get ahead of myself.
Y'all know exfoliators are a must in my skin and body care routine so the Bath & Body Works 'Lavender & Sandalwood' Clay Body Scrub and Coco Shea 'Coconut' Richly Nourishing Body Buff (thanks to the Mistress!) should come as no real shocker. Both smell amazing; again no shocker since regular readers know I'm a firm aromatherapy believer. Visit Inyouvations in Sheraton for all your Bath & Body Works products. Continuing on the Bath & Body Works train, the…
